Slippy Toad, Fox McCloud, and Falco Lombardi
Artist unkown - Star Fox / Nintendo pixel art
Sadly can't find a clue as to the identity of the pixel artist behind this. Not even sure where I found it.
Star Wars: Special Edition
Millennium Falcon escaping Mos Eisley
dir. George Lucas
It's easy to forget that the special editions contained a few new shots and visual sequences that really were pretty great.
Fox and Falco having a beer
Star Fox / Nintendo fan art
I've searched exhaustively for clues as to who drew this, but all I've been able to find is that it apparently (possibly, maybe) originated at Japanese online art community Pixiv.
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
dir. Leonard Nimoy
Captain Kirk, saving whales in the belly of a Klingon Bird of Prey, holding his breath for as long as only Kirk can. One of my favorite moments of William Shatner glory.
Metroid: Other M
Some years ago I made it halfway through Metroid: Other M before getting sidetracked. Picked it up from scratch the other day, and I'm having just as much fun as I did the first time around. Absolutely adore this one—it's like a bad sci-fi TV show that takes itself completely seriously. Nintendo and Team Ninja came up with a brilliantly simple Wiimote-only control scheme that to this day remains one of the most intuitive I've ever experienced. The game is a sleeper gem that never got its due.
Purple Gamecube Edition Wii U
This would be a failed console special edition version of a failed console, the kicker being that Nintendo would actually sell tons of them. And I'd be first in line. Such is Nintendo nostalgia. Sadly it's just a prank from a couple years back.
